Branching natural harbour
The bay divides into several narrow inlets that reach deep into the land. From above they look like the outspread fingers of a hand, and they give the whole composition its shape.

关于地图
Sovetskaya Gavan’ Map Poster & Print
Sovetskaya Gavan’ sits on the coast of Khabarovsk Krai, where the Tatar Strait separates the Russian mainland from Sakhalin. From above, the defining shape is the harbour itself: a large natural bay that splits into several long inlets pushing inland. The town has no single centre. It spreads along these inner shores in separate districts, and taiga-covered slopes rise behind them.
The bay was known in the nineteenth century as Imperatorskaya Gavan, the Imperial Harbour, and was renamed in the Soviet period. Its sheltered water has made it a naval and fishing anchorage for generations. On paper, the inlets make a strong graphic form. Pale fingers of water reach into dark masses of forest, and a thin line of roads and rail tracks follows the land between them.
A Sovetskaya Gavan’ map poster reduces this intricate coast to its essentials: the jagged harbour, the open strait to the east and the scattered settlement pattern that grew up around working piers. The result reads almost like a nautical chart, with a quieter, more architectural finish, and it suits anyone who knows the Russian Far East or has a personal tie to its ports.

Open Tatar Strait
East of the harbour mouth the map opens onto the strait. It leaves a wide, calm field of empty space that balances the dense detail of the shoreline districts.
Dispersed shoreline districts
Rather than one compact core, the town is a string of neighbourhoods along separate stretches of shore, linked by roads that bend around the heads of the inlets.

为什么选Sovetskaya Gavan’
一张有意义的地图
People hang this map because the harbour is the reason the town exists, and the poster shows it plainly. It suits sailors, former residents and families with roots in the Far East who want a quiet reminder of a coast that few others will recognise.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a year of service or a family name, and the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint in particular gives the bay the feel of an old naval chart.
