Tanhaçu is a municipality in the interior of Bahia, in the semi-arid sertão well inland from the state's Atlantic coast. The town itself is modest, and on a map it appears as a tidy block of streets surrounded by wide, lightly marked countryside. Unpaved roads and farm tracks leave its edges in several directions, linking outlying communities scattered across a landscape of scrub and pasture.
That contrast between a small centre and a vast, quiet surrounding is the essence of a Tanhaçu map poster.
