Tondano Map Poster & Print
Tondano is the main town of Minahasa Regency in North Sulawesi, set in the volcanic highlands south of Manado. It sits at the northern end of Lake Tondano, the largest lake in the province. The Tondano River leaves the lake here and flows north towards the coast. The town is also remembered for the Tondano War of the early nineteenth century, when Minahasan communities resisted Dutch colonial forces.
On the map, the lake dominates the southern part of the frame, a broad, smooth expanse of water. The town's streets gather at its northern tip and follow the river as it heads away. The street pattern is fairly dense near the centre and becomes looser along roads that lead up into the surrounding hills and towards neighbouring highland villages.
