From above, Tordher appears as a dense cluster of lanes set among cultivated fields. The streets do not follow a grid. They wind the way older market towns in the region tend to, with narrow passages branching off a few roads that carry most of the traffic in and out. Past the last houses, the map opens quickly into irrigated plots and farm tracks.
The town sits on the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, not far from where the Indus leaves the hills and turns south. That setting accounts for the flat, fertile ground around it and for the irrigation lines that cut across the fields. On a monochrome print those channels and field boundaries give a quiet texture to the edges of the town.
