Tromsø Map Poster & Print
Tromsø sits mostly on the island of Tromsøya, in a narrow sound between larger islands and the mainland in northern Norway, well above the Arctic Circle. From above, the island is long and narrow. The compact centre is on its eastern shore, the airport is on the west side, and the middle is wooded. A high bridge and road tunnels connect it to the mainland and to Kvaløya to the west.
Across the sound, in Tromsdalen, stands the Arctic Cathedral with its distinctive triangular profile. A cable car climbs the mountain above it to a viewpoint over the city. Tromsø is home to the world's northernmost university, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and is known for the northern lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer.
A Tromsø map poster emphasises water. The shorelines of the island and the mainland dominate the design, the sound runs through the middle, and bridge and tunnel lines tie everything together. The streets are concentrated on narrow strips of land. The map shows a city shaped by fjords, sounds and mountains more than by any plan.
