Ulan-Ude Map Poster & Print
Ulan-Ude grew at the point where the Uda flows into the Selenga, the largest river feeding Lake Baikal. From above, the Selenga's broad channels and islands mark the western and southern sides of the city. The Uda cuts through from the east, and the old centre sits on the tongue of land between them. Hills rise around the edges and push newer districts into the valleys.
The capital of Buryatia has a mixed identity that shows in its landmarks. On the central square stands a giant bronze head of Lenin, often described as the largest in the world. Not far outside the city is the Ivolginsky Datsan, one of Russia's main Buddhist monasteries. The Trans-Siberian Railway passes through, and a branch heads south toward Mongolia.
An Ulan-Ude map poster captures a city shaped by water and terrain more than by planning. The centre has a compact, fairly regular block pattern. Beyond it, streets follow the river banks and the contours of the hills, and the braided Selenga adds soft, irregular shapes that balance the harder lines of the rail corridors.

The monumental square with the giant Lenin head anchors a compact grid of older blocks. This part of the city lies between the two rivers.
Rail corridor
The Trans-Siberian line cuts a long, sweeping curve through the districts. A branch toward Mongolia turns off it, and together they form one of the strongest lines on the sheet.
