Vila Flor is part of the wider Luanda metropolitan area in Angola, located south of the older city centre and away from the coastline. Like much of the capital region, it has grown quickly, and from above it shows a mix of planned streets and more informal patterns. Roads connect it with other districts, and open land still appears between some of the built-up areas.
The Luanda region has expanded dramatically in recent decades, with new neighbourhoods appearing across the plateau inland from the Atlantic. On the map, this growth shows in the variety of block sizes and street layouts. Some areas follow a regular grid, while others develop along paths and roads in a more organic way, creating a varied and changing urban texture.
