Waren Map Poster
Waren sits at the northern end of the Müritz, the largest lake lying entirely within Germany. On a map, the town is a compact wedge of streets between that open water to the south and the smaller Tiefwarensee to the north, so water frames it on two sides. In black and white the two lakes become broad, empty shapes, and they set the town's outline more clearly than any road.
The historic centre is a small, irregular grid of lanes around the market squares and old churches, running down to a harbour on the Müritz shore. From there, promenades and moorings follow the waterline. Newer residential areas spread north and east around the Tiefwarensee and along the roads leading out into the flat Mecklenburg countryside.
Waren is the main gateway to Müritz National Park, a landscape of forest, bog and many smaller lakes to the east, known for its ospreys and cranes.
