Welling Map Poster & Print
Welling lies in the London Borough of Bexley, in southeast London, between Shooters Hill to the west and Bexleyheath to the east. Its high street follows the A207, which traces the Roman road later known as Watling Street, the route from London toward Kent and the Channel coast. From above, the high street is a long straight axis, with residential streets branching off on both sides.
Most of Welling's housing dates from London's interwar suburban growth, and the map shows the typical pattern of that period: gently curving roads, crescents, and neat rows of semi-detached houses with long back gardens. To the east, Danson Park opens up with its large lake and the Palladian Danson House, a green break before Bexleyheath begins.
A Welling map poster places an ancient road at the centre of a twentieth-century suburb. The straight line of the old route crosses the frame, the curving streets of the housing estates fill the space around it, and the wide shape of Danson Park's lake adds a calm open area. It is a modest place with a surprisingly strong map.

On the eastern side, Danson Park holds a large ornamental lake and the eighteenth-century Danson House. The water forms one of the clearest shapes in the design.
Interwar crescents
Around the high street, streets from the 1920s and 1930s curve and loop in gentle arcs. Their rows of semi-detached houses give the map an even, rhythmic texture.
