Westbury Map Poster & Print
Westbury lies on the western edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, where the chalk upland drops steeply to the clay vale below. On a map the town spreads across the lower ground. Its older streets gather around the market place, newer housing extends outward, and the escarpment to the east marks a clear boundary where the street pattern stops.
The town is known for the Westbury White Horse, a large figure cut into the slope beneath Bratton Camp, an Iron Age hillfort on the escarpment. The present horse dates from a remodelling in the late eighteenth century. Westbury is also a railway junction, and the tracks curving around the town add strong, sweeping lines to the map.
