Willich Map Poster
Willich lies on the flat Lower Rhine plain, between Krefeld, Düsseldorf and Mönchengladbach. The present town was formed in 1970 by joining four places: Willich, Anrath, Schiefbahn and Neersen. On a map that history is easy to read, because the four centres still stand apart, each with its own knot of streets surrounded by fields.
The land is almost level, so the pattern is set by old roads and farm tracks rather than terrain. Village streets radiate from small central squares, newer housing estates wrap around them in loops and cul-de-sacs, and long straight roads run between the settlements across open farmland. Motorways cut across the area as bold lines.
In Neersen, the small river Niers and the moated Schloss Neersen, now used by the town administration and as a summer theatre stage, add water and formal shapes to the picture. A Willich map poster shows the town as it actually works: not one centre, but a constellation of villages on the plain.
