关于地图
Yangiyer Map Poster & Print
Yangiyer, whose name means “new land” in Uzbek, was founded in the late 1950s as part of the Soviet project to irrigate the Mirzachul, or Hunger Steppe, south of the Syr Darya. It lies in Sirdaryo Region close to the border with Tajikistan, and it was built to a plan from the start rather than growing out of an older settlement.
That origin is visible from above. The streets form an orderly grid of wide avenues and residential blocks, and around the town the land is divided by straight irrigation canals and field boundaries into large, regular plots. Cotton and the other crops grown here depend on water brought across what had been dry steppe.
A Yangiyer map poster is a study in geometry, with the town grid and the canal-cut fields echoing one another across the page. The straight lines give the design a strong, almost architectural character, and they tell the story of a place that was drawn on paper before it existed on the ground.

Irrigation canals
Canals cross the surrounding steppe in long, straight lines, carrying water to the fields and dividing the landscape into a broad geometric pattern.
Wide avenues
The main streets are broad and straight, typical of Soviet town planning, and they form the strongest lines of the poster, crossing the grid of residential blocks at regular intervals.

为什么选Yangiyer
一张有意义的地图
Yangiyer is home to families who settled the Hunger Steppe and to their children, many now living elsewhere in Uzbekistan or abroad. Its planned streets carry a particular history, and a map is a fitting way to remember a town that was built with such intent.
Set the title, subtitle and coordinates line to a name, a date or a phrase of your choosing, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Blueprint style suits a planned town especially well, echoing the drawings it began as.
