Yelabuga Map Poster & Print
Yelabuga sits on the right bank of the Kama in Tatarstan, where the small Toima river comes down to meet it. From above, the historic centre is a tight, regular grid of merchant streets on a raised terrace. Beyond it the land drops away toward water meadows, backwaters and the broad sweep of the river, which gives the town a strong natural edge on one side.
The town is known well beyond the region. The landscape painter Ivan Shishkin was born here, and his family house is now a museum. The poet Marina Tsvetaeva spent her last days in Yelabuga in 1941. On a bluff above the Kama stands the restored stone tower of an ancient hillfort, known locally as the Devil's Settlement, and it can be seen from the river.
A Yelabuga map poster shows the contrast between the orderly nineteenth-century core and the looser districts built later, with the Kama and its floodplain filling a generous part of the frame. Outside the town lie the large industrial plots of the Alabuga economic zone. Their broad blocks look very different from the fine grain of the old streets, and the difference is clear even in plain black and white.
