The Vym River
The river winds past the town in wide bends. It is the most organic line on the poster, and it softens the regular pattern of the streets.

关于地图
Yemva Map Poster & Print
Yemva is set in the forests of the Komi Republic, where the Vym River bends past the town and the railway line toward Vorkuta crosses it. On the map, the town is a compact grid of streets near the tracks and the river, with the rest of the frame filled by forest tracks, streams and wetland.
For much of its history the town was called Zheleznodorozhny, meaning simply railway, which says a lot about why it exists. It grew around the northern line in the mid-twentieth century and became a centre for timber and rail work. Today it is the administrative centre of Knyazhpogostsky District.
A Yemva map poster shows a small, practical settlement in a very large landscape. The streets are tidy and close together, while the river and railway cross the frame in long lines. The emptiness around them is part of what makes the image feel like the north.

Northern railway
The railway runs straight through the landscape and the town. It explains Yemva's origins and serves as the main axis of the composition.
Taiga surroundings
Beyond the last streets, the map opens up into forest tracks and streams, giving the poster generous empty space around a small centre.
