Frontier grid
The streets are laid out in straight, regular blocks, a legacy of the town's origin as a planned military post on the border.

关于地图
Zaysan Map Poster & Print
Zaysan lies in the far east of Kazakhstan, close to the Chinese border, in a broad basin near the lake of the same name. The Saur range rises to the south, and the town sits on the gently sloping ground beneath it. Its streets form a fairly regular grid of one-storey houses and gardens, and the steppe begins right where the blocks end.
The town was founded in the nineteenth century as a Russian military outpost on the frontier with the Qing Empire, and its orderly layout reflects that origin. Lake Zaysan to the north is one of the largest lakes in Kazakhstan, and the Irtysh River flows through it.
A Zaysan map poster shows a neat grid set in open steppe, with roads leading out towards the lake, the mountains and the border. It is a clear image of a remote corner of Central Asia.

Foothills to the south
The ground rises towards the Saur mountains, and streams run down across the slope towards the lake basin below the town.
Open steppe
Beyond the last streets the land opens into steppe crossed by long straight roads. This leaves the poster calm and uncluttered.

为什么选Zaysan
一张有意义的地图
Zaysan is remote, and people who have left it often remember the steppe, the mountains and the grid of quiet streets. A map of the town is an accurate, understated way to keep it close.
Add a title and subtitle, in Kazakh, Russian or English, and keep the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Every design is available as a $9 digital file or a printed poster.
