Al Quţayfah is a town in Rif Dimashq governorate, north-east of Damascus, on the route that runs north towards Homs. It lies in the Qalamoun area, where open plains meet the long ridges of the Anti-Lebanon mountains. With around sixteen thousand residents, it is a local centre for the surrounding villages and farmland.
