Barceloneta is a municipality on the north coast of Puerto Rico, west of San Juan. On the map, the town centre is a small grid of blocks around the plaza, with the Atlantic coast just to the north and the Río Grande de Manatí reaching the sea nearby. Around it, the land is a flat coastal plain crossed by highways and rural roads.
The town is known as the Ciudad de las Piñas, the city of pineapples, reflecting its agricultural past. In more recent decades it has become a centre of pharmaceutical manufacturing, and large industrial sites appear on the map as distinct blocks outside the historic core.
