Market blocks
The streets around the centre, where the textile market spreads out on trading days, form the densest and most regular part of the town's grid.

Chiconcuac Map Poster & Print
Chiconcuac is a small municipality in the State of México, just north of Texcoco and east of Mexico City. It is known far beyond its size for its textile trade, especially woollen sweaters and garments. On market days its streets draw shoppers from across the valley.
The town occupies flat ground on the eastern side of the Valley of Mexico, where the waters of Lake Texcoco once reached much further than they do today. Its centre follows a fairly regular pattern of blocks around a church and plaza. Neighbouring towns lie so close that on the map the built-up areas almost merge into one.
A Chiconcuac map poster shows how a craft tradition fits into a small, dense place. Near the centre the blocks are tightly packed and the streets narrow, and fields and irrigation channels appear at the edges before the next town begins. The overall form is modest but crisp, and the grid gives the print a calm structure.

Merging towns
Chiconcuac's edges run almost directly into neighbouring communities, so the map shows a continuous fabric of streets across this part of the valley.
Valley floor
The town sits on flat land east of the former Lake Texcoco, where straight roads and field boundaries run across the open plain.

Chiconcuac means something particular to the families who have made and sold textiles here for generations, and to the many visitors who know it from its markets. A map of its streets is a fitting tribute to that craft.
