Two rivers meeting
The Chicopee River winds west through the city and joins the Connecticut, giving the poster a strong diagonal and a broad river edge on one side.

Chicopee Map Poster & Print
Chicopee sits on the east bank of the Connecticut River, just north of Springfield. The map is organised by water. The Chicopee River crosses the city from the east and joins the Connecticut, and the old mill villages grew where it drops. At Chicopee Falls and Chicopee Center, brick mill blocks, canals and worker housing still set the pattern of the streets.
In the nineteenth century the city made textiles, firearms, bicycles and sporting goods. Spalding manufactured basketballs here, a few miles from the Springfield gym where the game was invented. To the north, the runways of Westover Air Reserve Base cover a large part of the map and form an unmistakable geometric shape.
A Chicopee map poster brings those layers together: the wide curve of the Connecticut, the smaller river winding through, the dense old centres and the plainer suburban roads beyond them. Drawn in black and white, it reads as a portrait of an industrial New England city that grew up on water power and changed with the century that followed.

Mill villages
Chicopee Falls and Chicopee Center keep the tight street pattern of nineteenth-century mill settlements, clustered where the river once powered factories.
Westover runways
The long crossing runways of Westover Air Reserve Base take up much of the north of the city, a clean geometric shape among the residential streets.

Chicopee is often overlooked next to Springfield, but for people who grew up here the rivers, mill blocks and airfield make a very particular place. The map suits a family home, a first apartment or a gift for someone who has moved away from the Pioneer Valley.
