Dubăsari lies on the eastern bank of the Dniester river, within the territory controlled by Transnistria in Moldova. The river is the main feature of its map. The town stretches along the bank, and its streets run both parallel to the water and back toward the higher ground to the east.
Just north of the town, the Dubăsari hydroelectric dam spans the Dniester. Behind it, the river widens into a long reservoir that extends upstream. On the map, the dam is a short straight line across the water, and the reservoir changes the river's shape from a narrow channel into a broad band with softer shores.
