Glória lies in the north of Bahia, close to Paulo Afonso, on the São Francisco River. The river in this stretch was transformed by hydroelectric dams, and the reservoir formed behind them flooded the site of the original town. Glória was rebuilt on new ground, and its present layout reflects that planned relocation.
On a map this history shows as regular streets beside a wide, irregular shoreline, where the reservoir fills former valleys with fingers of water. Beyond the town the land is dry caatinga, the semi-arid landscape of the Brazilian northeast, crossed by few roads.
A Glória map poster combines two very different textures: the orderly blocks of the rebuilt town and the complex edge of the lake. It is a map about water in a dry region, and about a place that moved and continued.
