Kampung Sedenak lies in the Kulai district of southern Johor, north of the Johor Bahru metropolitan area. On a map it reads as a modest cluster of streets and houses surrounded by a much larger pattern of plantations. There are regular blocks of oil palm and rubber, cut by estate roads and drainage channels, and patches of remaining forest and wetland.
The area has traditionally been agricultural, with smallholdings and estates around a few village centres. It is also part of a wider corridor of Johor that has been drawing new industrial and technology development, and the landscape around such villages is gradually changing.
