Karcag Map Poster & Print
Karcag stands in the Nagykunság, part of the Great Hungarian Plain in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county. The land here is almost perfectly flat, and the town spreads generously across it. From above, a central square and main streets give way to broad blocks of single-storey houses with deep gardens, and beyond the last streets, straight farm roads run out across open fields to the horizon.
Karcag is regarded as a centre of Cumanian heritage in Hungary, the Kun people who settled the plain in the thirteenth century, and the town cultivates that identity through local museums and traditions. It is also known for its slow-cooked mutton stew, a regional dish celebrated at a yearly cooking festival. The Hortobágy national park lies to the north.
A Karcag map poster shows how space is used on the puszta. With no hills or rivers to bend it, the plan is shaped by roads meeting at wide angles, the railway cutting across in a single stroke, and field boundaries forming a vast, gentle grid. The result is airy and calm, with plenty of white space.

Garden blocks
Large residential blocks with deep plots create a coarse, open street pattern, typical of the market towns of the Great Hungarian Plain.
Railway line
The railway crosses the town in one long, clean stroke, a strong horizontal on the poster that divides the older centre from the outer districts.
