La Rinconada lies on the flat plain of the Guadalquivir just north of Seville. The municipality has two main settlements: the original village of La Rinconada and the larger San José de la Rinconada, which grew along the railway and main road. On a map, they appear as two separate clusters of streets surrounded by a geometric pattern of fields.
The land here has long been farmed, and irrigation has turned the plain into productive agricultural country.
