Maianga is one of the central urban districts of Luanda, lying just inland from the Baixa and the curve of the bay. On a map it forms part of the older, more formally planned city, with avenues and cross streets laid out in recognisable blocks that contrast with the looser patterns of the outer suburbs.
The streets here climb from the low waterfront toward higher ground, and the map shows how the grid bends and adjusts to that slope.
