Maliana is the capital of Bobonaro municipality in western Timor-Leste, close to the border with Indonesian West Timor. It lies on one of the country's larger areas of flat land, a valley plain surrounded by hills. On a map the town is a modest grid of streets, with irrigated fields and small villages spread out around it.
