Qina lies in the highlands of western Yunnan, a region of north–south mountain ranges and high, flat-bottomed basins. From above, the town occupies level valley ground. Its streets gather in a compact core, and farmland and villages spread across the basin floor around it. The mountains that enclose the valley appear as broad areas with few or no roads.
The map shows the basic pattern of life in this part of Yunnan. Settlement and farming occupy the flat land, while the slopes stay largely open. Roads follow the valley lengthwise and cross into neighbouring basins through passes. Field edges and small village clusters add a fine, scattered texture between the town and the hills.
