Rāzām is a town in the north coastal part of Andhra Pradesh, on the flat, fertile land between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal. From above, the town is a knot of streets where several roads meet. Around it lies a broad plain of cultivated fields, irrigation channels and small villages.
The town serves as a local market and education centre for the surrounding farming area. Its layout grew outward along the main roads rather than following a plan. The result is a mix of dense older lanes near the centre and newer, more spread-out development along the routes leading out of town.
