Reuleuet lies on the coastal plain of northern Aceh, on the island of Sumatra, between the Strait of Malacca and the mountains of the interior. On a map the settlement follows the main roads, with houses and small lanes lining them and rice fields, plantations and villages filling the spaces in between.
This part of Aceh is largely flat and green, crossed by rivers flowing from the highlands to the sea. Towns here tend to grow along transport routes rather than around a single dense centre, so the map shows a linear pattern of streets with branches reaching into the surrounding countryside.
