Valley settlement
The town is concentrated on the flatter ground of the valley. This gives the poster a dense centre surrounded by wide areas of open terrain.

Rongjiang Map Poster & Print
Rongjiang lies in the uplands of northern Yunnan, in southwest China, a region of high ridges, deep valleys and scattered level ground. From above, a town like this does not spread freely. It gathers where the land flattens out, with roads following contours and valley floors, and the terrain around it closely shapes the built-up area.
Northern Yunnan is a landscape of farmed slopes, winding mountain roads and rivers cut deep into the rock, and the map around Rongjiang reflects that. Roads bend and double back as they climb, while fields and small settlements occupy whatever gentle slopes there are. The pattern is irregular and organic, far from the straight grids of lowland cities.
A Rongjiang map poster turns this setting into a clean composition of curving streets and open space. The mountains appear as broad quiet areas, so the thin lines of roads and houses stand out. For a small place, the result is surprisingly expressive.

Mountain roads
Roads leading out of town curve with the slopes and ridges. They draw long winding lines that add movement to the composition.
Hillside farmland
Farmland on the gentler slopes breaks the landscape into small, irregular pieces. This pattern, typical of rural Yunnan, decides where paths and hamlets appear.
