Rosenberg is in Fort Bend County, southwest of Houston, next to its twin town of Richmond across the Brazos River. From above, the river's winding course marks one edge, the rail lines cut diagonally through the centre, and the street grid lines up with the tracks.
The town grew up as a railroad junction in the late nineteenth century and was named after Henry Rosenberg, a railway executive. Its historic downtown still has blocks of brick commercial buildings near the tracks. Recent growth has added subdivisions, highways and shopping centres on the surrounding prairie.
A Rosenberg map poster shows both stages of the town's history. The older, angled grid near the rail yards contrasts with the looping streets and cul-de-sacs of the newer neighbourhoods, and the Brazos curves along the side of the frame.
