Sivagiri is a town in southern Tamil Nadu, in the Tenkasi area, near the eastern foothills of the Western Ghats. The land around it is mostly farmland, with water tanks, irrigated fields and groves, while the hills rise to the west. From above, the town appears as a compact cluster of lanes and streets, with roads running out to villages across the plain.
Sivagiri has long served as a local centre for the surrounding countryside and was historically the seat of a zamindari estate. Temples and markets remain focal points of town life, and the town's rhythms are closely tied to farming.
