Sonkach is a town in the Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh, on the black-soil plateau of the Malwa region. From above, it is a compact settlement near the Kali Sindh river. A main highway runs through the area and links it to Dewas, Indore and Bhopal. Most of the built-up area sits close to that road and the river crossing.
The pattern around the town is typical of central India. There is a dense core of narrow lanes and closely packed plots, then a looser fringe of newer streets, and then a wide spread of field boundaries and village tracks.
