Cieszyn Map Poster & Print
Cieszyn lies on the Olza river, which since 1920 has formed the border between Poland and the Czech Republic. What was once a single town is now two: Cieszyn on the eastern bank and Český Těšín on the western. From above, the river runs between them like a seam, crossed by several bridges.
The Polish side holds the historic core. Castle Hill rises above the river, with the Romanesque Rotunda of St Nicholas and the Piast Tower, while the market square and the tightly packed old town streets climb gently towards the east. The rotunda is familiar to many Poles from the 20 złoty banknote.
A local legend says the town was founded by three brothers who met at a spring, still marked by the Well of Three Brothers. A Cieszyn map poster shows a town that is both divided and connected, with the river at its centre and the old town clustered just above.

Castle Hill rises above the riverbank, a green, wooded rise holding the Rotunda of St Nicholas and the Piast Tower, and it anchors the western edge of the old town.
