Railway yards
A wide band of parallel tracks marks one of the major rail yards of the Midwest, and it is easily the boldest element on the Galesburg map.

Galesburg Map Poster & Print
Galesburg is a railway town on the open prairie of western Illinois. Its map is shaped by two forces: a regular street grid and the railway. Several main lines meet here, and the large classification yard on the edge of town appears as a long band of parallel tracks. The yard is one of the most striking features of the whole map.
The town grew up around Knox College, whose campus still sits near the centre. Old Main, on the campus, hosted one of the Lincoln–Douglas debates in 1858. Galesburg is also the birthplace of the poet Carl Sandburg, and the small cottage where he was born is preserved as a historic site.
A Galesburg map poster reveals a Midwestern layout with unusual depth. The college quadrangle forms a green block within the grid, the central square gives the streets a focal point, and the railway lines cut across everything at their own angles. Beyond the town edge, farmland continues in the square-mile pattern of the prairie survey.

Streets and country roads follow a regular north-south pattern, extending the town's blocks outward into the square fields of the surrounding farmland.

The poster appeals to Knox alumni, railway enthusiasts and families with roots in western Illinois. Straight streets and crossing tracks give it a strong graphic presence in a dorm, a study or a living room.
You can personalise the title and subtitle, for example with a graduation year, and adjust the coordinates line. It comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Choose a $9 HD download or a printed poster, framed or unframed.
