Granollers Map Poster & Print
Granollers is the capital of the Vallès Oriental comarca, about 30 km northeast of Barcelona. From above, its old core is a knot of narrow streets around the main square. Later districts spread out in blocks toward the Congost, the river that runs along the town's western side. Railway lines and main roads cut through the plain, and low wooded hills rise along the edges of the valley.
The town grew as a market centre, and its best-known structure shows it: La Porxada, a 16th-century open loggia on the Plaça de la Porxada, originally built to shelter the grain market. Granollers is also closely tied to handball. It was one of the venues for the handball tournament at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and its club is among the most established in Spain.
