Kalispell Map Poster & Print
Kalispell is the largest town in the Flathead Valley of northwest Montana, a broad glacial basin between the Salish Mountains and the Swan Range. Flathead Lake, often described as the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi by surface area, lies a short drive to the south, and Glacier National Park is within an hour to the northeast.
The town was founded in the early 1890s in anticipation of the Great Northern Railway, and its downtown still reflects that era, with Main Street running north to south as the spine of a regular grid. The Conrad Mansion, built for founder Charles Conrad, stands a few blocks from the centre. Newer development has spread outward across the valley floor.
