Lākshām lies in Comilla District in south-eastern Bangladesh, on the low, flat plain between Comilla and Noakhali. It is best known as a railway junction: here the main line between Dhaka and Chittagong meets branches running towards Noakhali and Chandpur, and the tracks form the strongest lines on the map.
Around the junction the town is compact, with a market area and dense lanes close to the station. Beyond, the landscape is typical of the Bangladesh plain: rice fields divided into small plots, countless ponds, and villages set on slightly raised ground under tree cover, joined by narrow roads and embankments.
