Leszno Map Poster & Print
Leszno is a town in southern Greater Poland whose historic centre still shows its planned origins. From above, a square market place with a free-standing town hall at its centre sits inside a tight grid of short streets. Around that core, wider roads roughly follow the line of the old town limits. Beyond them, the newer districts and residential estates spread out across flat ground.
The town has a notable place in European intellectual history. In the seventeenth century it was a centre of the Czech Brethren, and the educator John Amos Comenius lived and taught there. Today Leszno is also known in aviation circles for its gliding airfield, which has hosted international gliding competitions.
