Mougins sits on a hill a few kilometres inland from Cannes, in the wooded country behind the Côte d'Azur. Its historic village makes one of the most distinctive shapes on any map of the region. The streets curl around the hilltop in concentric rings, like the inside of a shell, following the line of the old ramparts.
Around this core the wider commune spreads across hills and valleys in a looser pattern of winding roads, villas, gardens and pine woods, with major roads crossing its lower ground.
