Palafrugell Map Poster & Print
Palafrugell sits a few kilometres inland in the Baix Empordà, and its municipality reaches the sea at three small coastal villages: Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu. From above, the town is a compact, irregular core surrounded by newer streets, with roads spreading east through pine-covered hills to the rocky coves where the Costa Brava meets the sea.
In the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Palafrugell was a centre of the cork industry, and the town houses a museum devoted to it. The writer Josep Pla was born here, and Calella de Palafrugell is known for its summer evening of havaneres, the sea songs associated with Catalan sailors and the Cuba trade.
