Pflugerville lies just northeast of Austin, where the Blackland Prairie begins to roll east. The town takes its name from the Pfluger family, German immigrants who settled here in the nineteenth century. For much of its history it was a small farming community, but in recent decades it has grown rapidly into one of the larger suburbs of the Austin area. Lake Pflugerville, a reservoir east of the centre, is a popular spot for walking and paddling.
