Berkel River
The river winds through Stadtlohn from east to west. Several bridges cross it and green space lines its banks, making it the natural axis of the town on the map.

Stadtlohn Map Poster & Print
Stadtlohn lies in the west of the Münsterland, in North Rhine-Westphalia, only a few kilometres from the border with the Netherlands. The Berkel River flows through the town on its way west into Dutch territory. On a map its winding course divides the centre, and bridges link the old core to the neighbourhoods beyond.
In 1623, during the Thirty Years' War, a major battle was fought near the town, in which Catholic League forces under Tilly defeated a Protestant army led by Christian of Brunswick. The landscape shows little of that past today. A Stadtlohn map poster instead reveals a tidy market town, with a compact centre and residential streets spreading outward across flat land.
The Münsterland countryside around Stadtlohn is typical of the region, with scattered farmsteads, small woods and a dense network of country lanes, many of them following old field boundaries. In black and white, these lanes create a delicate web around the town, while the Berkel adds a soft, meandering line. The effect is ordered, calm and characteristic of this corner of Germany.

Compact centre
The old town core forms a small, dense cluster of streets near the river, and newer residential neighbourhoods have spread from it in every direction across the flat land.
Münsterland lanes
A fine network of country lanes connects scattered farms and hamlets around the town, filling the outer frame with a delicate pattern typical of the regional landscape.
