Vammala Map Poster & Print
Vammala is in the Pirkanmaa region of southwest Finland, on the waterways of the Kokemäenjoki river system. Since 2009 it has formed the centre of the merged town of Sastamala. From above, water sets the terms. The town is laid out along the shores of lakes and a flowing river, and roads and bridges carry traffic across the narrow crossings between them.
The area has a long history, and its medieval stone church of St Olaf in Tyrvää is one of the best known in the region, restored after a fire in the late 1990s. The town itself is modest in size. A compact centre sits beside the water, and residential streets fan out onto the surrounding higher ground, with forest and fields beyond.
