Yepocapa sits on the mountainous southern side of Chimaltenango, on terrain shaped by the volcanoes of central Guatemala. On a map the town reads as a small grid pressed onto a slope. Streets bend where the ground falls away, and ravines cut through the surrounding land like dark creases.
The Volcán de Fuego, one of the most active volcanoes in Central America, rises close by, and ash from its eruptions has fallen over the municipality more than once.
