El mapa
Af’abet Map Poster & Print
Af’abet lies in Eritrea, in country where the highlands begin to fall toward the lowlands and the Red Sea coast. From above, the town is a compact grid of low streets surrounded by rough, dry terrain. Seasonal riverbeds, dry for much of the year, cut through the land and appear on the map as pale, winding channels.
The town is best known in modern history for the Battle of Afabet in 1988, when Eritrean fighters overran a major Ethiopian army garrison here, a turning point in the long war for independence. The map itself is quiet about that past, but the setting it shows, a road town in a hard landscape, explains why the place mattered.
An Af’abet map poster is spare by nature. There is little density to fill the sheet, so the design leans on contrast: a small, orderly street pattern against open ground and the thin lines of roads that link the town to the wider country. It is a map about place and memory more than size.

Per què Af’abet
Un mapa amb significat
For Eritreans at home and abroad, Af’abet carries a weight far beyond its size. A map of the town can be a quiet act of remembrance, or simply a picture of a place that shaped a family’s story.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a year, and choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the dry, open landscape particularly well.
