Agía Paraskeví sits in the northeastern part of the Athens basin, at the foot of Mount Hymettus. On the map, the western side is a close weave of residential streets, the kind of dense, irregular pattern that covers much of greater Athens. As the ground rises to the east, the street network loosens and eventually gives way to the empty contours of the mountain.
The suburb takes its name from a church dedicated to Saint Paraskevi, and it has grown from a village into a substantial municipality with its own centre, squares and shopping streets. It is also home to the Demokritos National Centre for Scientific Research, whose campus appears on the map as a distinctive green block among the housing.
