Akyazı lies east of Adapazarı in Turkey's Sakarya Province, on the margin between a wide agricultural lowland and the forested hills that rise to the south. On the map the town appears as a loose, spreading fabric rather than a tight core, its streets following the gentle slope of the land and thinning out gradually into fields and orchards.
Main roads carry traffic toward Adapazarı and the major east–west routes that cross this part of northwestern Anatolia, and they give the town its strongest lines. Streams come down from the hills and cross the lowland in winding courses, adding soft curves to an otherwise practical layout. The district is also known for the thermal springs at Kuzuluk, a spa settlement within its borders.
