Ālangulam is a town in the far south of Tamil Nadu, in the farming country between Tirunelveli and the Western Ghats. The map shows a compact centre where several roads meet, with houses and shops packed along them and quieter residential streets filling in behind.
Around the town the pattern opens into agricultural land. The region relies on tanks, the traditional irrigation reservoirs of south India, and they appear on the map as rounded shapes with fields spreading out below their banks. Rural roads link the town with surrounding villages, and to the west the ground begins to rise toward the hills.
