Algueirão is part of the urban area of Algueirão–Mem Martins in the municipality of Sintra, on the western side of the Lisbon metropolitan area. The parish is among the most populous in Portugal, and from above that shows as a tight pattern of apartment blocks, short streets and small squares covering the hills around the railway.
The Sintra line is the main structural line on the map. It runs east toward Lisbon, with the station close to the centre of the town. Streets branch from it in irregular patterns, climbing and descending the slopes, while ring roads and connecting highways wrap around the built-up area and link it to the rest of Greater Lisbon.
To the west the ground rises toward the Serra de Sintra, with its woods and palaces, a very different landscape only a short distance away. An Algueirão map poster frames the dense residential fabric that most visitors to the region never see: the everyday suburb where many of its residents actually live.
